Large chemical holding tanks are often constructed with numerous large plates, welded together on site. This construction method means that every weld must be inspected for quality.
In this project for manufacturer Brown Tank, LLC, these 40′ diameter tanks consisted of several levels of 10′ high plates. AET’s Nondestructive Testing Group used radiographic examination techniques to evaluate the structure. Typically this requires applying the radiographic film, exposing it to the appropriate isotope, and processing the film manually.
AET expedited the process by applying film to each level of plates and exposing them all at the same time. We processed the film digitally and saved the client countless hours of processing time.
