Metro Transit Central Corridor Light Rail Transit (Green Line) – Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Minnesota

Metro Transit Central Corridor Light Rail Transit (Green Line) – Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Minnesota

AET provided the geotechnical design services for the Green Line LRT system constructed from downtown St. Paul to downtown Minneapolis. As Minnesota’s largest public works project to date, the LRT system consists of 11 miles of new track, 18 station platforms, bridge modifications and new construction, retaining walls, drilled shaft supported spans over existing tunnels and surrounding roadway construction.

Analysis by AET’s Geotechnical and Construction Materials groups included track/station frost heave mitigation, pile foundation support in deep, soft clay areas, existing bridge foundation evaluation and surcharging and instrumentation of the operations and maintenance facility track yard area. Retaining walls analyzed in the West Bank area of Minneapolis included tiered wall systems.

AET also worked with the electrical contractor Aldridge/Egan Contractors on construction of 14 power substations and eight signal houses. AET provided special inspection services on the substations that included soil observation and testing, reinforcing steel observations, concrete testing and pavement observation and testing.
